For our Alberta readers…
This weekend’s offerings includes the little-festival-that-could, the Mountain View Music Fest in Carstairs. Beginning this coming Friday evening (August 5), a wide-ranging slate of performers- most of the roots variety- take to the stage through to Sunday.
The Polyjester Brothers Jason and Sheldon Valleau started the festival in 2006 and in five short years it has grown to be a sizeable event. As their website states:
The Mountain View Music Fest is a multi-purpose, 3 day festival in the Town of Carstairs providing the citizens and surrounding rural farming communities the opportunity to come together to appreciate talents in the areas of music, dance, crafts and visual arts. This annual event is to help spotlight Albertan musicians/songwriters, artists and artisans, bring varied professional disciplines of the arts to a more rural audience and contribute to the positive dynamics of our community by promoting public participation and co-operation.
Admission to the Mountain View Music Fest is by donation. There will be a suggested cash donation sign at the front entrance and also a chance to purchase food and beverage tickets.
Canadian folk, pop, and country stalwarts Lunch with Allen (Murray McLauchlan, Cindy Church, Ian Thomas, and Marc Jordan) and the formidable Lynn Miles (whose outstanding double album Black Flowers Volume 1-2 I’m listening to as I type) are among the headliners of the 2011 edition of the MVMF with no shortage of Canadian and Albertan talent performing.
Amongst the many are Fervor Coulee favourites Ben Sures, Cam Penner, T. Buckley, Cara Luft, Ralph Boyd Johnson, and Rob Szabo. Other performers are sure to keep things lively are Charlie Major, Tim Hus, Matt Masters, Souljah Fyah, and others too numerous to mention individually; I’m looking forward to catching the Kinjo Brothers on Saturday afternoon. There are a few different sites featuring performances, including late-night shows, so plan you festival experience accordingly.
A full schedule is posted at http://www.mvmf.ca/MVMF/2011_Artists.html. Hopefully, we’ll see you there!
Thanks for visiting Fervor Coulee. Donald
