Waskasoo Bluegrass Music Society operated in Central Alberta- primarily Red Deer- from late 2000 to 2012. In those twelve years, the volunteer board did everything they could to promote, showcase, and present bluegrass music in Alberta. It was exhausting work, but we had some times. With the upcoming induction of Lynn Morris to the International Bluegrass Hall of Fame, it occurred to me that WBMS’s presence has pretty much disappeared from recorded memory. The Lynn Morris Band was the first international act we booked for a concert; working with the Edmonton and Calgary groups, we brought Lynn, Marshall, Jesse, and Ron in for a three-concert weekend. It was an amazing way to start. I am going to post some artifacts from those early Waskasoo days, just to give us a little digital history.

Ed, obviously I didn’t come that direction! Just saw your message today. Use my email fervorcoulee@gmail.com. We stayed pretty close to home this summer- not ready to battle the crowds. I am venturing out this weekend for Beaumont Roots and Blues- it will be my first live music in a long, long time…Hope all is well with you and that Shady Grove went well. I am looking forward to Blueberry again- hopefully this coming summer.
